Goodbye Ms. Koekkoek
On Tuesday, June 20th staff and students came together to say goodbye to our beloved Principal,
Ms. Koekkoek, who will be leaving us in September taking on the principalship of Notre Dame Catholic High School in Carleton Place. Ms. Koekkoek was honored by members of the student body, staff rep Mr. Brooks and of course by our new principal, Mr. Palumbo. Ms. Koekkoek on behalf of all staff and students at STA we thank you, we offer you our best wishes for success at your new school, and we will most definitely be missing you next year.
Athletic Awards Celebration
On Thursday, June 8th 2017 St. Thomas Aquinas student body and the Athletic department came together in the gymnasium to honor this years student athletes and coaches. Congratulations to all award winners, teams and coaches for a great year at STA. Go Ravens.
Evening of the Arts
St. Thomas Aquinas hosted their second annual Evening of the Arts on June 8, 2017. This evening is a celebration and display of St. Thomas Aquinas’ thriving Art program. Guests enjoyed the displayed artistic works of five of our student artists. The Yardbirds played an entertaining selection of music – capping off with an encore performance of “Uptown Funk”. Fifty four parents, family members and friends were served appetizers and a delicious three course meal prepared by our culinary arts program. To cap off the evening, our grade 7/8 drama group presented their comical and musical version of the “Evolved story of Little Red Riding Hood”. It was an enjoyable evening for all. Well done to Mr. Letendre, Mr. Curtis, Mr. Brookes, Mrs. Turner and their students for their outstanding work!
Catholic Education Week Province Wide Mass
On Thursday, May 4th STA staff and students gathered together in the atirum to celebrate the Province Wide Catholic Education Week Mass. Special thanks to Mr. Vonesch for organizing the mass and to Father Paul for celebrating with us.
Indigenous Awareness Day
On Wednesday, May 3rd 2017 the CDSBEO celebrated the 2nd annual Indigenous Awareness Day. High School students and staff were introduced to Storyteller, actor and town crier, Daniel Richer, who brings students the richness of aboriginal culture and history. He shared his knowledge of Mother Earth, who is Turtle Island's (North America) great teacher. His legends and stories spoke of respect and harmony among all living things and demonstrate how the people around the world are part of the sacred circle of life.
On March 11th, six students from St. Thomas Aquinas embarked on an unforgettable experience to the Dominican Republic for a Service Trip. They spent 8 days at a local orphanage called Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos in the city of San Pedro de Macrois. Throughout the week the students helped with various projects, such as building an agriculture centre at the orphanage, working in the fields, preparing meals in the kitchen, and helping with the special needs children. The students also had the opportunity to interact with the children, listen to some of their stories and create bonds. Overall, the experience was very impactful and inspired the students.

On Wednesday, March 29th staff and students are proud to turn off any unnecessary lights and computer screens for the hour between 9:45-10:45 AM to recognize Earth Hour!
MEP Win 1st and 2nd place at the Ottawa Bocce Ball Tournament
Cogratulations to Mr. Beacom and the MEP class who finished 1st and 2nd place last week in the Bocce Ball tournament in Ottawa.
Progress Reports/Parent Interviews
Please note that Progress Reports go home period four today. Should you require an interview with your child's teacher please fill out the form attached to the progress report and send it back with your son or daughter with your preferred time. Please note interviews will be granted on a first come first serve basis. Interviews are scheduled between 3 and 7 PM on Thursday, March 23rd 2017.

On Shrove Tuesday staff and students were treated to a delicious pancake breakfast to celebrate the beginning of the Lenten Season. Special thanks to Mr. Vonesh and all students involved in preparing the meal.

STA Wears Orange In Support Of Matthew Holmes
On Wednesday, February 22nd staff and students at STA rallied together in solidarity and wore Orange shirts and pants in support of Matthew Holmes battle against cancer.
STA Open House A Success
Staff and Students welcomed new Grade 6 and 9 Ravens last night at our annual open house. Special thanks to all who came out and to all staff and students for sharing their knowledge and views about what makes STA a wonderful choice.
Grade 6 Activity Day
All feeder school Grade 6 students will spend the afternoon at STA on Wednesday, February 1st 2017 where they will take part in various activities planned to help them prepare for the change to grade 7 in September.
CoCo & Cram
Last week Link Crew leaders and grade nine students worked together period two for the annual COCO and Cram study session. Link Crew leaders help students organize their notes, review, and give study tips to help prepare for upcoming semester one final exams.
Christmas Talent Show

Annual Christmas and Music Concerts

Mission Team Trivia Night
The Mission Team held a Trivia Night at the Russell House this past Saturday, which turned out to be a great success. STA represented well, and came away with the win in the trivia department.
The trivia was fun and the company was great. With the help of Scotiabank, we will have raised over $12,000 at the event! Thank you for all your contributions to our silent auction—we couldn’t have done this without the incredible generosity of so many. And congratulations goes out to Francis Zandbelt and his wife who won the “gift card Christmas tree”—worth $778.00!
University Information Program
St. Thomas Aquinas is hosting the University Information Program (UIP) on October 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the school gymnasium. The UIP provides an opportunity for prospective university applicants to gather information about Ontario’s 21 universities including programs and campus life. This event is open to St. Thomas Aquinas senior students, parents, area schools and outside visitors. No fee or pre-registration is required to attend the UIP. Visitors will be asked to sign-in at the main office prior to attending the event.

On Thursday, September 29th students celebrated back to school with their annual Tight and Bright dance. Special thanks to all student council members and Mr. D'Alessio for organizing and to all staff who volunteered some time to help supervise.
